Chickadee

A beauty at 5 years old, Chickadee was rescued from the slaughter pen at a sale barn.  She is a bright, confident and talented mare with tons of potential.  Although green under saddle, Chickadee displays the attributes of a fine trail horse - plus - she's gaited!  This lovely mare stands about 14.2 HH and weighs about 800 lbs.  Be sure to click the link for her training evaluation before you pass up this girl!

Tango

Tango is a Peruvian Paso that was originally born here at FCER in 2009..  He was adopted and his owner has worked with him extensiviely in prepartion for being ridden.  Now economics forces his owner to give him back to the rescue.  Tango is currently in the Albuquerque area and the owner has offered to work with a new adopter in finishing Tango's training.

Appaloosa gelding

Santana

Santana is a very colorful 5 year old appaloosa gelding.  He stand 14.3 HH and weighs about 900 lbs.  Santana leads, loads, and stands for the farrier.  He has completed 30 days of professional training and his adoption fee includes another 30 days for Santana and adopter.  Santana will make a great trail horse, however, he is night blind and cannot be expected to perform after nightfall or indoors.  His person needs to be experienced, as Santana is only started under saddle.

Velvet

Velvet is a beautiful black 12 year old mare.  She is rideable, but has been badly mistreated by a rider  at some point in her life and is fearful of people on her back.  Velvet is solid on the ground and easy to handle.   She is up to date on vaccinations, deworming and teeth floating.  Velvet is about 14.3 HH and weighs about 900 lbs.
We are looking for a home for Velvet with a person experienced enough to work with her abuse issues

Fancy

Fancy has returned to FCER due to a divorce.  She  is gentle and rideable, although somewhat green.  Fancy is 9 years old, stands about 15 HH and weighs about 1100 lbs.  She would be appropriate for an intermediate rider.
Her adoption fee includes 30 days of training.

Harley D

 

Harley D is a very curious 12 year old john mule.  He's very gentle and has been handled. 
At some point in his life he has been ridden and packed.

Adoption Fee for Harley D is $750.

Cutie Pie

Cutie Pie is a very nice 11 year old mare.  She's athletic and ready to go.  Cutie Pie was returned to the rescue after 2 years due to personal issues the owner has.  This mare has a big motor, but is easily controlled.  For the right rider they could go far!  She stands about 15 HH and weighs in around 1200 lbs.  She is solid, sound, and ready to hit the trail!  The adoption fee includes 30 days of lessons for horse and rider.

OREO

What a cool pony!  Oreo is a 19 year old black and white paint miniature.  He's gentle as can be..  Oreo leads, loads and loves to be pampered.  He is up to date on vaccination, deworming and teeth floating.

Tularosa

Tularosa is a lovely 8 year old mare.  Rescued from the slaughter pen in March, her foal was born blind.  All that is behind her now, and she's ready to move on to a new home.  Tularosa is a very willing mare that has had some saddle training in the past.  She will require a person that has a knowledge of horses and is a competent rider.  She leads, loads and stands for the farrier.  A sturdy gal, she weighs in at about 1200 pounds and stands about 15.1 HH.
  Tularosa's adoption fee includes 30 days of training.

TANNER

Tanner is a one year old Peruvian Paso gelding.  Cannella, his dam, was seized by the NMLB in 2009 while she was pregnant.  Tanner is somewhat friendly, and needs a person to spend a lot of time developing a relationship.
  He is not for a beginner horseperson.

ADOPTION FEE FOR TANNER IS $250

 

COCOA

Cocoa is a very nice paint mare pony.  She's about 13.2 hands.  She came to FCER with a halter imbedded in her jaws.  That's all healed now, and she's ready to move on.  Cocoa has been started under saddle.  She will need a home willing to work with her to turn her into a riding horse.  She is kind and gentle.  Cocoa leads, loads and stands for the farrier.  She is UTD on vaccination, deworming, teeth floating and hoof trims.
Her adoption fee includes 30 days of training with Mary Beth Bandy.

HANNAH

Hannah is a pretty girl!  She's been started under saddle, but has a few developmental muscle issues that must be worked on.  She's offered for adoption with the stipulation that care will be taken to address her muscle tone.  Hannah is 5 years old.  She's smaller - half Arab and half Curly.  A very people oriented girl that's looking for someone to love her!

SUSIE Q

Susie Q is a nice 6 year old black mare that was abandoned.  Now she belongs to FCER and we have currently put her in training with Mary Beth Bandy.  Susie Q has been ridden before, but she is very rusty.  She is cute, and a smaller horse at about 14.2 hands, but stocky.  Somewhere in her background their was some draft horse, as evidenced by her leg bone and head.  She will make one find mountain trail horse.  Her adoption fee includes 30 days training with Mary Beth Bandy of Aztec.

SPRING

Spring is a yearling filly Peruvian Paso.  She is the daughter of Spice, who came into the rescue pregnant.  Spring is a nice young thing, but is shy of people and will need a person who is patient and willing to put time into developing a bond.  Spring is halter trained but is hard to catch.  She responds well to Parelli techniques.

Cosmo

At 21 years old, Cosmo still has plenty of life left in him!  He was once a race horse, and has some calcificaiton of his left knee.   It doesn't slow him down though.   He's a nice, personable fellow, and would be a great trail horse for someone looking to pleasure ride.  Cosmo is tall, right at 16.2 hands.  He's current of all vaccinations, deworming and hoof trims.

Peanut

Peanut is a nice 12 year old Thoroughbred gelding.  He's been used for young riders in both English and Western.  Peanut does have some damage to the navicular bones on both fronts, and must be shod with Natural Balance shoes to remain sound when being used.  He is well trained, but has some spunk, and would be good for an advanced beginner or intermediate rider.

TREATS

Treats is 5 years old and ready to start working for her living!  She was one of 3 FCER horses spotlighted at the Four States Agricultural Expo in Cortez, CO.  There she was started under saddle and did very well.  She's a smaller horse, about 14.2 HH, but stocky and well built.  Treats leads, loads, and stands for the farrier.  Her adoption fee includes 30 days of training with Mary Beth Bandy.

Blue Fly Sue

Sue is a registered quarter horse that was a broodmare.  Sue, Pepper, Misty, Bandit and Betsy all came from a man that at 87 could no longer care for them.  She is a nice mare, but not trained to ride.  Sue does stand for the farrier, lead, load and groom nicely.  She is being offered for adoption as a PASTURE PAL ONLY

Pepper

Pepper is a 15 year old Quarter Horse mare.  She was a broodmare and is not trained to ride.  Pepper has good ground manners and is sound.  She leads, loads, and stands for the farrier.  Pepper is being offered for adoption as a PASTURE PAL ONLY.

Joe

Joe is a nice 8 year old paint gelding  standing about 14.2 hands.  His people couldn't take care of him anymore due to age and health issues.  Joe is gentle, and can be handled, although we know he hasn't had any work for the past 4 years.  He leads, loads, and stands for the farrier.  His adoption fee includes 30 days training with Mary Beth Bandy.

SARAH

Sarah is an 8 year old Thoroughbred mare that was rescued by a kind lady.  She's an off the track horse that just didn't run fast enough.  Sarah has completed rehabilitation and is ready for a new home.  We've treated her for ulcers, and she's fine now.  Sarah does windsuck, although casually.  Her ground manners are great.  She leads, loads, stands for the farrier and likes to be groomed.  Sarah has completed 30 days of training, and is ready for a new life of casusal trail riding.

Nugget

Nugget is a 7 year old gelding.  He came to us as owner surrender, severely underweight, with a body score was 1.5.  Nugget wouldn't stay home (he was a stallion at the time), so the owners put a rope on him and tied him up in his pen.  Now he's gained weight, has had all his shots, dewormed, teeth floated and is ready for the next phase of his life.  This young man is an appaloosa and mustang cross. Nugget stands about 14.2 HH.  He doesn't know much, and will need a person willing to devote some time to earning his trust and building a relationship.

Welcome Honey!

 Also known as Paris.  Honey was a stray, about 100 lbs. underweight when the Livestock Board sent her to us.  She is a nice young lady, people friendly, curious, loves to be brushed, and even likes a good bath!  She leads, loads, stands for the farrier and is current on her vaccinations, deworming and teeth floating.  She's a 4year old filly, standing about 14.2 HH.

CINDY

Cindy is a 10 year old registered Quarter Horse mare.  Most of her life has been spent as a PMU (Pregnant Mare Urine) mare.  She's been treated like livestock, and does not understand the finer aspects of the human-horse relationship.  Cindy has had training on her ground manners, and can be haltered, led and stands for the farrier.  She has never been ridden, and that will require someone willing to invest time to develop a relationship based on trust.

Boots


Boots is an 8 year old grade bay mare. She is about 14.1 HH and about 850 lbs. Boots leads, loads, and stands for the farrier. She has had some unpleasant experiences with people, and is not entirely trusting. She would make a wonderful horse for somebody willing to spend time with her to grow a bond. She has been ridden, although we have not tried since she has been here at the rescue. When she first arrived, Boots wanted nothing to do with people.

Feisty the Filly

Feisty is a 3 year old appaloosa and Quarterhorse cross, one of the horses seized by the NMLB in January of 2008.  This young lady loves her brushing, and is very people oriented.  She halters, leads, loads and stands for the farrier.  Feisty has had some ground training.  This filly is full of energy and will require someone that knows how to handle a young horse like her.
